Helen New holds the Advanced Diploma of the Pilates Method (91490NSW) and specialises in the management of Scoliosis. As well as delivering Workshops for Pilates Instructors, she educates dancers on injury prevention and delivers rehabilitative programs after injury.
After suffering an injury herself in her early twenties, Helen discovered Pilates. Despite being told she would never dance again, Pilates was able to help mend her body and enabled her to dance professionally for another two decades.
Her interest in Scoliosis developed after discovering her stepdaughter had developed a severe curve at age 11. At this time, Helen spent a great deal of time researching Scoliosis to help her stepdaughter avoid surgery. She has written and presented her own Scoliosis Workshop “Curvy Bodies” across Australia, leading her to be invited to represent Scolio-Pilates® in Australia by its founder Karena Thek.
This course is a building block and lays the foundation for the Scolio-Pilates® Module 2: The Professional Seminar. You will receive a strong base in the anatomy of scoliosis to help you understand what is happening under the skin that creates the changes we see and experience with scoliosis on the surface and with movement. With this understanding, you will be better equipped to make the best scoliosis specific exercise choices.
Topics to be covered include:
What is scoliosis? Who it affects and its effects on the systems of the body
Experience scoliosis! What it feels like to do Pilates with scoliosis
Anatomy of Scoliosis
Understanding functional v structural scoliosis
Defining the convexities and concavities
Theories and laws of movement that apply to scoliosis
The first 5 exercises for scoliosis
Module 2 builds upon the pre-requisite Module 1, Scolio-Pilates® Professional Seminar.
We will dive deeper into understanding the anatomy of scoliosis and use that understanding to define the curves of scoliosis (3, 4 and thoraco-lumbar curves). Once we define the curves we can begin to understand how to correct those curves towards neutral. We use scoliosis specific corrections and scoliosis specific exercises to aid us in bringing our clients towards a more balanced system.
The scoliosis specific exercises begin with corrections in the basic positions of prone, supine, side-lying, seated and standing. Once the corrections are applied in the basic positions, we add movement to these corrections either on the mat or with the assistance of the Pilates equipment. Come learn why Scolio-Pilates®, a form of Pilates that allows for modifications to assist the client with scoliosis in the Pilates studio, is now being used by children’s hospitals, physical therapy clinics and Pilates studios worldwide to help with the management of scoliosis.

In this immersive and practical workshop, Blossom will dive into the less common Wunda Chair repertoire. She will take you through a selection of these lesser-known exercises: demystify and explore how to broaden and deepen them to apply for clients with specific needs or issues, as well as those seeking new challenges.
Blossom has found that many of the less frequently taught exercises can accommodate a range of client needs and therefore deserve more attention! Add to your existing Wunda Chair repertoire with accessible new exercises, variations and progressions.
Join Blossom for a one-hour Matwork Masterclass, exploring Advanced Matwork repertoire.
Blossom will share extensive Reformer repertoire drawn from her nearly 30 years of experience in the Pilates Method, dance and movement. Blossom will impart an in-depth look at Reformer exercise variations, instilling the precision and application of the Reformer repertoire that has been informed by her unparalleled experience working with Pilates elder Kathy Grant, her training under Romana Kryszanowska, as well as her own long history in dance, movement and additional lineages of Pilates.
Blossom is an open thinking and reasoning teacher who applies an understanding of more contemporary science-based considerations to her work, with applications for all manner of clients and environments, along with a healthy dose of fun! This will be a highly practical workshop.
Join Blossom to explore the professional intricacies of client management, and how to effectively access and realise progression for your clients.
An immersive workshop of repertoire and strategies that Blossom uses to progress clients from their initial consultation through the repertoire, along with discussion and demonstrations of the client experience.
This is very rare opportunity to learn how Blossom inspires such devotion from her clients through her strong lineage of training and her own developed techniques, progressions and management of client needs and motivations.
Join Blossom and explore a collection of exercises from Kathy Grant combined with traditional Pilates that focus on how the arms attach to the body.
We’ll play with ideas on how to use the upper extremities to strengthen the symmetrical or asymmetrical torso and learn how to effectively implement these tools for clients. Drawing upon her 3D Symmetry work, Blossom will impart an understanding of how to work with repertoire to address arms, shoulders, upper torso, head and neck issues and postures, that is so important in the modern day.
